Sheikh Mohamed leads Qatar delegation in COMCEC meeting in Turkey

Commerce Ministers at the 37th session of Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Co-operation of OIC. HE Sheikh Mohamed also had separate meetings with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Qassim al-Abdullah al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, has chaired Qatar’s delegation in the meetings of the two-day 37th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Co-operation of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (COMCEC), which began in Turkey Wednesday.
The standing committee meeting of the COMCEC – established in 1981 and is the main platform for multilateral economic and commercial co-operation in the Islamic world – was presided over by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey.
During the session, the COMCEC strategy implementation report was discussed, in addition to showcasing the OIC Programme of Action for the period 2016-25. The OIC general secretariat submitted a report on the progress and latest developments in terms of implementing the OIC-2025: Program of Action.
The meeting, which will conclude Thursday, also shed light on global economic developments, with special reference to the socio-economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the OIC members. In this regard, the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) presented its annual report on global economic developments.
The meeting touched on several issues related to intra-OIC trade. Additionally, the heads of the delegations participating in the meeting deliberated many topics of common interest, including discussing ways to improve the role of the private sector in economic co-operation among the members.
In this context, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture presented its report on the recent developments in private sector meetings.
On the sidelines, HE Sheikh Mohamed met Dr Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi, Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia and Dr Mehmet Mu?, Minister of Trade of Turkey, wherein they discussed ways of enhancing and developing co-operation in the fields of trade, investment and industry. The discussions also featured the exchanging of views on the topics listed in the COMCEC's agenda.
