The 'National Workshop on Enhancing Integrated Development Planning in the State of Qatar' began its work on Wednesday.
It is organised by the Planning and Statistics Authority in co-operation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
The two-day workshop aims to build the national capacities of workers in ministries, government agencies, the private sector, civil society organisations, universities, and research centres, and to familiarise them with recent developments in the field of development planning in the country, with the aim of improving the business and investment environment in the phase of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
President of Planning and Statistics Authority Dr Saleh bin Mohamed al-Nabit said that the workshop comes within the framework of the efforts made by the authority to build national capabilities in the field of results-based strategic planning, and to prepare for the third national development strategy 2023-2027, adding that the authority is committed to using the latest methods and approaches in the field of development planning.
He pointed out that the Qatar National Vision 2030 set the general trends for the future of the state, and highlighted the values that reflect the aspirations, goals and culture of the people of the State of Qatar.
He noted that it is a general framework for preparing the most detailed development and operational strategies and plans, guided by the four human, social, economic, and environmental pillars.
He pointed out that the focus will be on holding a series of preparatory and accompanying events, which will allow the opportunity not only to build capacities, but also to exchange views and knowledge regarding benefiting from the lessons of the past, with their challenges and opportunities, as His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, directed in his speech today before Shura Council.
He said that the preliminary results regarding the implementation of the Second National Development Strategy 2018-2022 indicate progress in implementing most of the strategy's initiatives and projects, especially in economic diversification and encouraging the private sector, despite the regional and global political, economic and social developments that accompanied the implementation of this strategy.
In this context, he pointed to the most important indicators in the strategy, including the increase in the non-oil sector's contribution to the real GDP which was valued at more than 60% in the second quarter of this year, supported by an advanced economic and logistical infrastructure.
He noted the great efforts made by government agencies in preparing and updating their institutional strategic plans and aligning them with national development strategies and the directions of Qatar National Vision 2030 to integrate the multi-level national planning system.
