For the fifth consecutive year, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) is participating in the 2021 edition of the world’s largest book fair, Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt International Book Fair) from October 20 to 24.
The theme of this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse is 'Re:connect – Welcome back to Frankfurt', aptly named after last year’s edition was largely virtual due to the various restrictions on travel and social events imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisers are keen to welcome back participating publishers from around the world to the fairgrounds as they emphasise that in-person encounters are what generate unexpected business opportunities, surprising moments and innovative ideas – all of which make Frankfurter Buchmesse the central meeting point for the global publishing community and the world’s largest and most successful trade fair for content.
“HBKU Press remains committed to promoting its authors and creative talents on the world stage. Despite the challenges the past 18 months have presented, HBKU Press continued to find innovative solutions to participate in the local and global publishing industries,” explained Bachar Chebaro, executive director of Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press. “With the start of this year’s book fair season, which kicks off with Frankfurter Buchmesse, we are excited to continue to engage in this new era of information exchange by promoting HBKU Press as a leading publishing house from Qatar and the region. We look forward to continuing to form new relationships and solidifying existing ones with publishers around the globe.”
The HBKU Press booth represents over 12 years of the publishing house’s catalogue of acclaimed works and innovative publications, from award-winning original titles in both English and Arabic to translated works by globally recognised authors and translators.
“Our plan is to promote the brand internationally, enter into agreements to buy and sell the rights of books that meet our strategic vision, while establishing relationships with entities that can expand the reach of our current titles,” said Chebaro. “I have every confidence that HBKU Press will enjoy much success this year, particularly as we’ve expanded our Young Adults and Sports literature categories to meet growing international industry demands.”
In its 73rd year, Frankfurter Buchmesse has developed a "unique concept for all participants with revised terms, a generous cancellation policy and a flexible programme", making it possible to respond quickly to changing conditions and challenges.
