The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's Natural Reserves Department is soon to complete works on a large site to be used as a recreation area for the young people during the upcoming camping season at the Sealine Area, an official said.
The Department director Saleh Hassan al-Kuwari told local Arabic daily Arrayah that this sport events site across 25,000sq m will have adequate lighting systems to be used at night. There is a helipad of 1,000sq m.
The works started there in July last year. Around 90% of the project has been accomplished so far and the remaining part is set to be accomplished within a short time.
"This site is for the use during the winter time and specifically during the camping season," the official explained. It has been subdivided into two adjacent sites equipped with two spectator stands with a total capacity of 4,244 persons for holding different sport events and competitions in addition to other festivals. While one part is paved in asphalt, the other has a sandy surface.
In addition to the spectator stands, both the sites have VIP areas. A number of shops and restaurants will be added soon to the sites which will also have dedicated zones for women. The sites are equipped with all the necessary public utilities such as mosque and toilets.
Al-Kuwari stressed that work is progressing fast so as to make it ready for the 2021- 2022 camping season. The fence around the sport events sites has been designed in an innovative way by installing old quad bikes and dune buggies on the trees.
The official said that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has accomplished this project in co-operation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Ministry of Culture and Sports' Mawater Center, the Ministry of Interior's Traffic Department, and Hamad Medical Corpration's Ambulance Service.
