The Show Horse Auction held at the indoor arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation Modern Pentathlon (QEFMP) last weekend marked the start of the annual calendar of Qatar’s equestrian sport’s new season.
The 2021/2022 season will feature various events from showjumping championships to flat racing, horse shows and the second edition of the Al Nashaab Championship.
The fifth edition of the Qatar Equestrian Tour – Longines Hathab will start on October 15 and will see a total of 14 various legs, including showjumping, dressage and the Future Riders events. All events will be held in coordination between QEFMP and Qatar Foundation’s Al Shaqab.
A number of high-profile championships will be staged throughout the season. The FEI World Dressage Challenge will be held on February 21, 2022 when the QEFMP will host the elite dressage riders. Another marquee event in the season is the Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines, which will involve show jumping, dressage and para dressage between 24 and 26 February, 2022.
February will round off with the HH The Amir Sword Showjumping Championships, which is organised by QEFMP in partnership with QF’s Al Shaqab and coincides with the HH The Amir Sword Festival, conducted by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).
Early March will be time for the Longines Global Champions Tour, which is one of the world’s most successful and thrilling showjumping championships. It will be organised at Longines arena of Al Shaqab from March 4-6.
The flat racing season, organised by QREC, this season will see a quantum leap with the race days increased to 70 races. The Al Ghariya Cup Day will be the inaugural meeting of the season and will take place on 13 October 2021. The races will be run at both Al Rayyan and Al Uqda racecourses featuring key meetings, including the HH The Amir Sword Festival, HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa al-Thani Trophy, HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa al-Thani Trophy, HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani Rifle, the Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Al-Thani Trophy (National Day Trophy), Qatar Gold Sword and the Qatar International Derby Festival.
In addition, the QREC horse show season will feature three auctions, seven national and international shows as well as the 2nd Katara International Arabian Horse Festival and the 3rd Souq Waqif International Arabian Horse Festival.
On the other hand, the second edition of Al Nashaab Championship, to be co-organised by QEFMP and horseback Archery Equestrian Sport Centre, will have three tours in the new season, demonstrating the focus on this traditional type of equestrian sports. The fitting finale of the season will be the final Hathab Tour on May 20, 2022.
