The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that it will partially open Freej Al Ali Intersection (also known as Al Tadamon Intersection) on D-Ring Road to traffic in all directions, following upgrade and expansion works, on June 18 (Friday) in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.
This comes following the partial opening of Nuaija Intersection (The Mall) and LuLu Intersection on D-Ring Road to traffic in May and March this year, respectively. All three intersections are part of the D-Ring Road development project being undertaken by Ashghal.
The project includes the development of Freej Al Ali Intersection, Nuaija Intersection (The Mall) and LuLu Intersection. The expansion will enhance traffic capacity of the intersections and reduce congestion in the area, especially at Freej Al Ali Intersection, which witnesses heavy traffic.
The improvement works within the project also cover the development of rainwater drainage networks to raise the efficiency of drainage in the area, by constructing a stormwater drainage tunnel with a total length of about 3.5km.
The project also includes the construction of a 4.5km common path for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of D-Ring Road. These are in addition to tree-plantation and landscaping works throughout the project.
Special attention is being paid to maintaining the Qatari heritage of the project area, known as Rawdat Al Khail, while designing the beautification elements of a tunnel that is under construction. It is planned to have murals inside the tunnel.
The D-Ring Road development works are scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022, according to Ashghal.
