An introductory session of Birla Public School (BPS) Debate Club for the session 2021-22 was held recently. The students of Grade-VII to XII got together virtually through Zoom. The students were welcomed and provided with the basic information about debate rules and regulations; intra-school, inter-school and Qatar Debate activities.
Around 40 students from Grade-VII and VIII and 61 students from Grade-IX to XII were present in the meeting. The session for middle school QPSDL students was conducted by Baiju Joseph and Aman Salma. The meeting started with Mansi Mehra, co-ordinator for the year, introducing the club and the coach. Head of English Department Lakshmi Devi addressed the students and briefed them about the commitment expected from them as members of the club. Stanley explained about inter-house debate competitions to be conducted during the year.
Last year’s Qatar Debate winners – Oorie and Madiha – shared their experiences and answered different queries. Shweta, QSDL coach for this year, shared introductory videos and the link for the Qatar debate tournament with the students to watch over the weekend. The club decided to discuss the format of debate in detail in the next meeting.
