A joint campaign to remove abandoned vehicles was launched on Sunday targeting areas within the jurisdiction of Al Wakra Municipality.
The exercise was carried out by the Joint Committee to Remove Abandoned Vehicles in co-operation with the Mechanical Equipment Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), the General Cleanliness Department and Al Wakra Municipality.
Committee member and Doha Municipality's General Control Department head Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, Lieutenant Abdulla Ali al-Marri from the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya), Ali Nasser al-Kuwari, head of the general control section at Al Wakra Municipality, and a number of MME employees and Lekhwiya personnel were present the campaign launch.
Al-Shahwani said that the campaign will continue for two weeks until all the abandoned vehicles at Al Wakra Municipality are removed. This is the eighth such campaign carried out by the committee as part of the work schedule for 2021.
The campaign was started at Al Shamal, followed by Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Al Daayan, Umm Salal, Al Sheehaniya and Doha.
After Al Wakra, the exercise will be carried out at the Industrial Area which has a large number of abandoned vehicles.
Al-Shahwani pointed out that since January this year, 6,000 abandoned vehicles were removed from across the country, out of around 10,000 spotted.
He urged the public to co-operate and avoid leaving their vehicles abandoned in undesignated areas in violation of the stipulation of the Public Hygiene Law no 18 for 2017.
Al-Kuwari said that 130 abandoned vehicles have been spotted so far within Al Wakra Municipality's jurisdiction. They will be removed in co-ordination with the committee in addition to the other vehicles that will be spotted later.
