* Al Khor Health Centre is spread across an area of 25,000 Sqm


The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday announced the completion of the main works of Al Khor Health Centre.
Executed by the Building Projects Department, the facility will serve about 600 visitors per day and is part of the State’s plans to develop health services, Ashghal has said in a press statement.
Al Khor Health Centre is located on an area of 25,000sqm, comprising a two-level main building that includes 40 clinics along with other health facilities such as a lab, pharmacy, spa and gym, besides annexes such as a mosque, a building for support services, a garage for ambulances and 297 parking slots.
Ahmed al-Mahmeed, project manager of Al Khor Health Centre, said all works of the project are being implemented in accordance with local specifications as well as international standards. The project has achieved more than 1.5mn man-hours without any lost time injuries so far, with al-Mahmeed stressing that Ashghal provides all safety measures for workers involved in the project.
“Ashghal began implementing the works in October 2018 and those are expected to be completed in a time-bound manner despite Covid-19 challenges. Within the framework of the government’s support for local products, almost 60% of the materials used in the project will be locally supplied, including steel, electrical and mechanical tools, glass and other materials,” he added.
The ground floor of the centre has a pharmacy with six distribution outlets and stores while the general clinics include 18 clinical rooms. The women’s clinic has general clinic rooms, two maternity clinics and two well-baby rooms. Also, the floor includes outpatient clinics with two observation rooms, two treatment rooms and two blood sampling rooms along with biometrics rooms and an isolation room. The radiology department on the floor has an X-ray room, mammogram room, panorama ray room and ultrasound room. A women’s prayer room is also located on the ground floor.
The first floor has specialist clinics with two ophthalmology clinics, two audiometry clinics and an ENT section, while the dental section has 10 dental clinics and one dental care study centre. The floor also has a laboratory, training room, nutrition and dieting teaching room and a multipurpose hall. Public services are also aailable on the floor.
The centre has annex buildings with swimming and spa facilities and a gym. Other annex features include a mosque and its annexes, a support services building, guards building and rooms for monitoring workers, a electrical and mechanical maintenance centre, a  private garage for ambulances and 297 car parking slots.
Sara al-Salhi from the Building Projects Department at Ashghal said the project design has taken into consideration the requirements of people with special needs, including signages, illustrations and Braille script, comfortable toilets, wide walkways for easy movement, auto-sensor doors and reception desks with a convenient height, besides car parking spaces close to the main entrances and ramps in place of steps.
