The Kansas City Chiefs have cut tight end Sean Culkin, who made news last month when he announced he planned to be the first NFL player to convert his entire salary to Bitcoin.
Culkin, 27, signed a reserve/future contract in February and would have received $920,000 if he made the roster as the primary backup to six-time Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce.
“I fully believe Bitcoin is the future of finance and I wanted to prove that I have real skin in the game – not just trying to make a quick buck. I will be converting my entire 2021 NFL salary to #Bitcoin,” Culkin tweeted on April 26.
The recent additions of veteran Blake Bell in free agency and former Duke tight end Noah Gray in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft apparently made Culkin expendable.
Kansas City also parted ways with offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann (released) and quarterback Jordan Ta’amu (waived).
Former Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Russell Okung converted half of his $13 million salary from 2020 into Bitcoin. That $6.5 million investment was worth approximately $13.4 million as of Tuesday morning.
Per Forbes, Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency that you can buy, sell and exchange directly without an intermediary like a bank. It was publicly launched in 2009.
Culkin has recorded two receptions for 36 yards in 19 career games (12 starts) with the Los Angeles Chargers (2017-19) and Baltimore Ravens (2020). He was an undrafted free agent out of Missouri in 2017.
According to the Kansas City Star, Culkin has a finance degree and is working on his MBA.

Jaguars, Falcons to host games in London in 2021
The Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars will be the home teams when the NFL returns to London for two regular-season games in 2021, The Athletic reported yesterday. The full NFL season schedule is slated to be released today.
The league played 28 games in London from 2007-19 before the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted the NFL International Series last season.
The Falcons and Jaguars will each play a “home” game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The stadium hosted two NFL games in 2019, with the then-Oakland Raiders beating the Chicago Bears 24-21 on October 6 and the Carolina Panthers defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-26 on October 13. Each game drew about 60,000 fans.
The NFL will not return to Mexico City in 2021, however, because the Covid-19 situation there is still considered too risky, according to the report.

Jags to sign Tebow
The Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to sign former first-round pick Tim Tebow to give him a shot at making the team as a backup tight end, NFL Network and NBC Sports reported Monday. The move would reunite Tebow with head coach Urban Meyer, his collegiate coach at Florida from 2006-09.
Tebow is 33 and hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2012. He was a first-round pick (No. 25 overall) of the Denver Broncos in 2010.
Tebow worked out for Meyer and the Jaguars as a tight end last month, per reports.
The Jags reportedly are waiting until after this weekend’s rookie minicamp to make a decision. They released veteran TE Tyler Eifert last week but picked Luke Farrell in the fifth round of the NFL draft. They signed Chris Manhertz to a two-year contract in March to be their No. 1 tight end. Tebow played minor league baseball in the New York Mets organisation, batting .223/.299/.338 in 287 games over three seasons. He hit 48 doubles and 18 home runs while recording 107 RBIs and stealing five bases. He retired from pro ball in February.
Tebow was part of two national championship teams at Florida under Meyer.
As a sophomore in 2007, he threw for 3,132 yards and 29 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. He also rushed for 828 yards and 22 scores and easily won the Heisman.
Tebow played two seasons in Denver before being traded to the New York Jets in 2012.
With the Jets, he saw limited time in 2012, completing six of his eight pass attempts before leaving the league after that season. Tebow wound up with an 8-6 regular-season record as an NFL starting quarterback, completing 47.9 percent of his passes for 2,422 yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He had a 1-1 record as a starter in the postseason.
