Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) received 300 boxes of various gifts as solidarity donation from the Arab International Academy (AIA), and as part of the 'Draw a Smile' initiative. Students, under the Academy’s supervision, took part in providing the money allocated to purchase and prepare the gifts.
The beneficiaries included sick children, particularly those with records at the Patient Support Fund, supervised by the social welfare department, from the volunteering and local development sector at QRCS.
The distribution event was attended by a AIA representative. QRCS distributed an array of gifts, including various types of toys, to sick children within the patient’s Aid Fund.
Some 100 gifts have been sent to Hamad Hospital to be distributed to the sick children by the end of the current week by the administration in keeping. The distribution will be carried out by Hamad Hospital’s administration, in line with the Covid-19 precautionary measures. Some of the gifts will be given to children from needy families and those with special needs.
“We value this initiative from Arab International academy, for a very important segment of society, the sick children," said Muna Fadel al-Sulaiti, executive director of volunteer and local development sector at QRCS.
"The contribution of students to this wonderful gesture, contains a beautiful message that the sick children are not alone behind the walls of hospitals and houses.
“There are other children of their ages who support them and express solidarity with them, morally and psychologically, especially as we near Eid”, she added.
Mooza al-Kuari, head of community development in the volunteer and local development sector, confirmed that the process of receiving and distributing the gifts is being carried out in accordance with the Covid-19 precautionary measures.
“All packages are sterilised before being delivered to beneficiaries at the QRCS headquarters or Hamad hospital or other locations,” the official explained, lauding the efforts of the AIA, and its noble humanitarian gesture, which enshrines the values of solidarity and social co-operation, especially on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.
“This religious occasion which means a lot to us as Muslims and encourages us to pay attention and spread the happiness for all those around us from vulnerable and, needy and sick persons,” she said.
The 'Draw a Smile' initiative, is carried out within the 'Who revived it' programme, concerned with providing students with various kinds of support via workshops, training courses in various fields such as first aid, psychological support and health education.
