Hamad International Airport (HIA), managed by MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Management and Operation, has achieved ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification, following an extensive assessment of the Airport’s Information Security Management System by Bureau Veritas in October 2020.
ISO/IEC 27001:2013 is a globally recognised certification for Information Security Management System. Achieving this certification affirms the Airport's ongoing commitment to implement industry best practise to manage airport’s information security and to continuously enhance its information security management system.
While striving to provide a seamless and secure experience for HIA’s customers; the airport has developed and implemented an effective Information Security Management System that complies with one of the most stringent international standards and enables further resilience against cyber risks.
During the official handover ceremony at HIA, the ISO certificate was presented to Suhail Kamil Kadri, senior vice president (SVP) Technology & Innovation at HIA, by Hossam Refaey, country chief executive of Bureau Veritas.
Kadri said, “We are proud to achieve the esteemed ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification from Bureau Veritas, as it reflects the efforts our team has put in to ensure our cyber security controls and procedures are reliable and also meet industry standard and best practice. With technology at the core of our airport strategy, it is imperative that we continue to assess, improve and adapt our information security management systems”.
Refaey said, “We would like to congratulate the entire team of HIA, for their collective efforts that has resulted in being certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2013 international standard. This accomplishment is a testimony of HIA’s commitment towards Information Security Management System. HIA has been ranked the “Third best airport in the world” by the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2020.
HIA is also the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a 5-Star Covid-19 Airport Safety Rating by Skytrax.
