Under its Ramadan Campaign 1442 A H, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is working on a set of Ramadan and seasonal projects for the benefit of 343,569 people in 20 countries.
With a total budget of QR16,078,780, which will be raised from donations, the projects include Ramadan Iftar, Zakat-ul-Fitr, and Eid Clothing.
Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, executive director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS, said: “The Ramadan Campaign is aimed at meeting the basic needs of fasting people, by providing them with the food items to observe fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Special focus is given to the most vulnerable groups such as refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), patients, older persons, widows, and persons with special needs”.
All the international operations of QRCS are executed by its foreign representation missions/offices stationed in the hot zones of the world. It also works together with fellow National Societies in host countries to co-ordinate efforts, select the beneficiaries, and ensure maximum outcomes for the target communities.
“Of course, the most important project is Ramadan Iftar. Diverse food parcels will be distributed to poor and displaced families to provide their food needs for one month. The contents vary from one country to another, including numerous local food staples such as rice, sugar, tea, chickpea, beans, freekeh, tahini, bulgur, wheat, lentils, pasta, noodles, tomato paste, halawa, vegetable oil, ghee, flour, dates, canned beef, tuna, bouillon cubes, spices, juices, and sweets,” al-Emadi said.
The cost of the Ramadan Iftar is more than QR12mn, with a target of 242,000 beneficiaries in 19 countries: Palestine (Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza), Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Lebanon, Iraq, Bangladesh, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kosovo, Albania, Mali, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mongolia, and Chad.
Another project to be implemented by QRCS in Ramadan is Zakat-ul-Fitr, which seeks to help those wishing to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr. The funds raised will be used to provide food parcels to tens of thousands of poor families in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Jordan at the ritually specified times of paying Zakat-ul-Fitr.
“Finally there is the Eid Clothing project. As a form of psychological support for poor families, we will distribute cash coupons to many poor families in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon, so that they can purchase new clothes for their children, with a view to making them happy and feel the joy of Eid,” al-Emadi said.
