The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) headquarters was lit in green on April 15 to mark Qatar Family Day, which has been observed since 2011. This day represents Qatar’s care for the family as the foundation stone of a strong and harmonious society. QRCS recognises the important role of civil society organisations in strengthening the fabric of family with all its components and at all ages.
On this national occasion, QRCS sheds light on the main needs and challenges for families, in light of the pressure of modern life. Under its strategic mission of saving lives and preserving dignity, QRCS pays great attention to families. To meet their essential needs, QRCS has diverse social welfare programmes and assistance funds for the families with widows, orphans, divorced mothers, and older persons, as well as those facing huge debts or emergencies.
QRCS’ Volunteering and Local Development Division launches development programmes to build the capacity of families headed by female breadwinners. These include women’s socioeconomic empowerment programmes, vocational training and qualification courses, entrepreneurship, cash and in-kind assistance, and psychological support for children.
