Poetry, humour and satire had a free reign at ‘Holi Hasya Vyangya Kavi Sammelan and Geet Sandhya’ organised by the North Indian Association (NIA). It was a rib-tickling evening to celebrate the festival of colours – Holi – organised by the new NIA managing committee.
The programme was conducted virtually on the Zoom platform and attracted a huge live audience across the globe. Renowned international poets from India namely; Naresh Gupta ‘Naaz’, Dr Malvika Hariom, and Dr Kamlesh Dwivedi graced the occasion as special guests and mesmerised the audience with their poetic compositions.
The in-house poets from Doha actively participated and presented their poems and Holi songs with a lot of energy and fervour.
The new management committee organised the first event of the year under the able guidance of Harish Kanjani, patron and founder of NIA.
Rajneesh Shastri, president of NIA, introduced the poets in his own poetic style. Sandeep Kumar Arya, general secretary of NIA, welcomed the guests and pitched the programme in humorous theme.
A learned panel of 10 talented poets and poetesses from Qatar; Jatinder Bajaj, Dr Meenu Parashar ‘Mansi’, Smriti Trivedi, Shalini Verma, Lalit Gururani, Shalini Garg, Priyanka Singh, Chandra Gururani, Vandana Raj, and Vishwanath Iyyer enthralled the audience with their own verses.
Holi folk songs by Dr Malvika Hari Om, Smriti Trivedi, and Chandra Gururani added a new dimensions to the programme.
The programme was a big relief and had the audience in splits of laughter given the gloomy days of the pandemic. Priya Bhedi, vice president of NIA, gave the vote of thanks. NIA encourages the Indian expatriate community to become its members and be a part of its vibrant culture.
