The Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan) announced its awareness campaign for the holy month of Ramadan, under the title 'With righteousness, we take care of you', in its seventh edition.
This year, the campaign aims to spread health, religious, mental and social awareness messages in the community through Ehsan's social media platforms, in co-operation with the relevant authorities and specialists in various fields and with the participation of older women who are members of Ehsan clubs (daycare).
Khalid Abdullah, director of the Awareness and Community Outreach Department, said in line with the State’s efforts to raise awareness of the elderly and people who are caring for them as well as other members of society, especially during this period, Ehsan Centre was keen to provide awareness messages in a safe manner through social media and other means of remote communication.
He pointed out that the implemented programmes seek to achieve some of the goals related to educating community members about the rights and basic needs of the elderly, as well as using the blessed month of Ramadan as a catalyst to expand the audience and beneficiaries of Ehsan's awareness programmes.
He thanked the parties co-operating with Ehsan in implementing the programmes of this campaign, which he described as an important and effective role, as the presence of specialists in various fields and the participation of the elderly enriches the content of the awareness campaign and gives it a distinctive value.
Abdullah said the campaign was launched yesterday and would continue until May 13, during which the centre would host a number of influential figures in society, including HE Dr Mohamed Kafoud, former Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Dr Saif bin Ali al-Hajri, to talk about their experiences over the past years.
Dr Haya al-Maadadi will share her memories of Ramadan with the elderly. In addition, older women who are members of Ehsan Club will provide awareness in the health field in co-operation with Qatar Cancer Society.
Moreover, a live broadcast will be done with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs and with the participation of a group of specialists in awareness fields related to the elderly.
