The Traffic Department is working to establish a special committee to list all delivery companies that own motorbikes with the aim of having traffic awareness programmes for this category of road users, a senior official has said.

Speaking to Qatar Radio on Tuesday morning, Colonel Mohamed Radi al-Hajri, director of the Awareness and Information Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, stressed the need for targeting this category of motorists and enhance their traffic awareness.

He said the number of such motorbikes has increased and thousands of them can be seen on the country's roads, and related road accidents and traffic violations are expected.

To deal with such concerns, the Traffic Department is exerting efforts to enhance safe driving practices on roads.

For instance, the department has collaborated with Qatar Post to organise awareness lectures on issues relevant to its employees engaged in parcel delivery operations. A good number of motorbikes are used in the daily operations of the postal service provider.
