The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is undertaking a number of important projects that aim to improve healthcare services in the country, in line with the best international standards, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari Tuesday said.
Speaking during a visit to the National Health Laboratory project in Mesaimeer, she said laboratory services were an important priority for the healthcare system and noted that the ministry was committed to developing lab and research services due to the important role they play in improving the health of the individual and society.

The national laboratory, to be completed in the first quarter of next year, is a major component of the comprehensive public health plan aimed at protecting and promoting the health of the Qatari community.
The lab will serve as a centre of excellence and referral for specialised testing, and provide the latest technology related to medical tests, supporting public health services all over Qatar. The project's services include ensuring the safety of local and important food products, based on the relevant safety guidelines and conditions these products must follow.
The facility will also analyse drugs and other medical products to ensure their efficacy and safety. Priority will be given to healthcare services related to combating epidemics and communicable diseases of different kinds. Besides, it will act as an important analytical tool for specialised research.
The project is being implemented in co-operation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). Its design has received a Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) sustainability certificate due to its conservation of electric power and water within and outside the building.
The project's design is also in line with the highest international safety standards for alarms and combating fires.
