Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Sunay activated its Disaster Information Management Centre (DIMC) to monitor the Covid-19 developments and updates, facilitate co-ordination among QRCS departments and join forces with other relevant government organisations.
The activation was announced by Ibrahim Abdullah al-Malki, CEO of QRCS, in the presence of Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, executive director of the Relief and International Development Division; Abdullah Sultan al-Qatan, executive director of the Medical Affairs Division; Dr Hasan Ali Kassem, general medical director of the Medical Affairs Division; Mohamed Rashid al-Marri, director of Communication and Public Relations; Subhi Fahd al-Ejjeh, head of Disaster Management; and Mahmoud al-Sheikh, medical services expert at the Volunteering and Local Development Division.
During the meeting, they discussed the preparations for tasks to be assigned by the health authorities, as well as the strict enforcement of preventive measures for the coming period in order to prevent the spread of the disease, under the supervision of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management, QRCS said in a statement.
Apart from its development and community service activities in normal times, QRCS is mandated to intervene in and respond to disasters in its legal capacity as an auxiliary to Qatar in its humanitarian and social efforts. As a member of the
International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, QRCS capitalises on extensive experience and rich technical and human resources in the fields of disaster preparedness and response, the statement noted.
Since the beginning of Covid-19, QRCS has been working hard to control the pandemic, undertaking multifaceted medical, volunteering and social roles. These include, but are not limited to, the operation of quarantine facilities, supervision of preventive measures at public places, street disinfection, distribution of protective supplies to the public, and provision of food and cash aid for the affected families.
"As a result of these successive achievements, QRCS qualified as one of 10 Qatari organisations that proved most supportive in dealing with Covid-19, according to a poll-based assessment done in May 2020 by Ipsos, a multinational research agency," the statement added.
