*State-of-the-art test centre to be ready by year-end
Qatar's health sector will get a shot in the arm with the completion of the National Laboratory by the end of this year.
Ashghal, which is carrying out the works, said on its website the laboratory will support public health programmes and monitor infectious diseases.
Located at Mesaimeer, the QR240mn lab will have facilities for testing services, water safety, environmental testing and food safety support, designed according to the best global sustainability standards.
The laboratory is built as part of Ashghal’s efforts to foster the country's healthcare sector in order to help achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The project will be built on an area of 40,000sq m and will provide specialised laboratories, the most important of which are labs for food safety, drugs and environmental safety. Also, it will have specified areas for control of epidemics.
Ashghal is also developing five health centres at Al Khor, Al Sadd, Ain Khaled, Al Wakra and Al Meshaf. Major works of Al Meshaf health centre have been completed. These centres will be handed over to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) next year.
According to details, given by Ashghal, the South Al Wakra health centre, with an area of 13,000sq m, has 16 clinics and six consulting rooms with a pharmacy, radiology and library rooms. It will have the capacity to accommodate 130 visitors a day for consultation.
The health centre in Al Meshaf, with a 23,000sq m area, will house 48 clinics with 23 consulting rooms, dental clinics, a laboratory, radiology and outpatient clinics with a capacity of 600 consultations a day.
In Ain Khaled, the health centre will have 48 clinics and 25 consulting rooms, eight dental clinics, a laboratory, pharmacy, radiology and outpatient rooms. The building, spread over 27,000sq m, can handle 600 cases a day.
The Al Khor health centre will have 60 clinics, 28 consulting rooms and 10 dental clinics along with a laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and emergency facilities. The centre can handle 650 cases a day.
In Al Sadd, 1,500 cases can be dealt with on a single day. The centre will have 100 clinics, 22 consulting rooms, eight dental clinics, five ophthalmology clinics, audio test clinics, a recovery centre, isolation rooms, laboratories and radiology, outpatient clinics and a pharmacy, all spread over an area of 29,000sq m.
