With 63 points, Qatar occupies the 30th rank in the fields of transparency and fighting corruption in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2020.

The result meant that Qatar is ranked second in the GCC and among Arab countries, and 30th from a total of 180 countries that are featured in the index.

The index ranks countries based on the perceived level of public sector corruption according to experts and business people. A score of 100 shows a country with the highest levels of integrity and transparency, while a score of 0 reflect high levels of corruption. The index relies on indicators provided by the World Bank, World Economic Forum, International Institute for Management Development (IMD), and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) among other prestigious international institutions.

This year, the index focused on the impact of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. It noted that corruption is prevalent across the Covid-19 response, from bribery for Covid-19 tests, treatment

and other health services, to public procurement of medical supplies and overall emergency preparedness. The report also noted finding that lower investment in healthcare was associated with higher levels of corruption.

The Administrative Control and Transparency Authority takes a number of steps to ensure Qatar remains a leader in the field of transparency and fighting corruption in all regional and international indexes, and not just the Corruption Perceptions Index. Some of these steps include coordinating with different national authorities, and ensure adherence to the code of conduct and integrity of public officials charter issued in Cabinet Decision No. 18 of 2020, among other efforts to advance transparency in the state.

The state efforts do not just focus on implementing the best practices in the fields of integrity and transparency, but also extend to supporting international efforts in those fields. Qatar has a number of international events in that regard, the most prominent of which is His Highness the Amir's Anti-Corruption Excellence Award.
