Qatar’s eSports is set to get a further a boost with the signing of a sponsorship agreement between Virtuocity, described as the region’s first dedicated digital gaming capital, and eSports gaming master Ahmad al-Meghessib Tuesday at Doha Festival City (DHFC).
The agreement is aimed at maintaining and expanding Virtuocity’s support to eSports communities in the country and the region, providing them with the latest technology and a unique experience.
“We are offering Ahmad our house (Virtuocity) and everything that comes with it, in order for him to promote and raise awareness on our goal, which is finding new talents and educating the local market on eSports,” Virtuocity Centre manager Stefan Negru told Gulf Times on the sidelines of the signing ceremony.
As part of the agreement, he noted that al-Meghessib can use the facilities of Virtuocity – a training ground for athletes like him.
“With this collaboration we want to show the local community that you can build a professional career in eSports. Video games are not just games, they can be your path to a six-figure career” Negru said.
Al-Meghessib, a professional football and eSports player who is a member of the Qatari National Team and the PSG eSports team, took part in the biggest eSport tournaments such as the 2017 FIFA Interactive World Cup Qualifiers. He also won the Mini Cooper FIFA Challenge Champion.
About Virtuocity, he underlined the importance of having a suitable venue and atmosphere to practice as it significantly contributes in raising the level of athletes’ skills.
“Whether I am training for my next event or a major tournament, I need the right environment for preparation, so I can perform at the highest level. Virtuocity offers the most comfortable and professional gaming environment I’ve ever experienced, while also providing world-class technology. I’m excited to be part of Virtuocity and look forward to working closely with them”, he said.
Virtuocity is one of theme parks at DHFC (owned and operated by Leisure) which reopened earlier this month as part of the gradual lifting of restrictions on recreational activities in Qatar.
Leisure’s theme parks, including SnowDunes and Angry Birds World, are open from 1pm to 10pm from Sunday to Wednesday, from 2pm to 12am on Thursday and Friday, and from 11am to 9pm on Saturdays.
All theme parks implement strict coronavirus (Covid-19) safety protocols such as mandatory Ehteraz app and temperature checks, social distancing, and requiring visitors and staff to wear face masks, among others.
According to DHFC, all rides, attractions and theme parks infrastructure are continuously being sanitised while hand sanitising stations are installed throughout the parks' areas.
