Community invited to sign up to drawing classes, photography and exhibition tours

Qatar Museums (QM) has launched several events and activities, to be hosted across its cultural institutions during January.

•Museum of Islamic Art:

Drawing for Adults (January 17, 18, 19,and 20 from 5pm-7pm). Learn the basics of drawing and shading techniques through sketching in the exhibition and drawing in the Studio. To sign up, please visit www.qm.org.qa/en/programs-calendar

Ottoman Design for Children aged 8 to 11 (January 19 and 20 from 4pm-5.30pm).
Students will gain basic knowledge of Ottoman islimi design, painting, gilding and brushwork techniques. As well as completing an illumination painting, by the end of the course, each student will have a small portfolio of painting and drawing studies to take home. A Falcon's Eye: Photography for Adults (January 20 from 6pm-7pm). The 4th Floor Galleries have been hosting the Photography and Camera section of the A Falcon's Eye: Tribute to Sheikh Saoud exhibition. Join exhibition curator Dr Giles Hudson for an informal tour of the galleries and learn more about the fascinating art of photography and its early history, as well as seeing some very unusual cameras! Join exhibition curator Dr Mounia Abudaya for a tour of MIA's special exhibition, A Falcon's Eye: Tribute to Sheikh Saoud Al Thani. Sheikh Saoud was responsible for acquiring the foundation collections for many of the QM museums, but as well as being an avid collector, he was also an environmentalist dedicated to saving rare species. Majlis Book Club for Adults (January 27 from 5pm to 7pm).
Join us to read and discuss a wide variety of books – whose topics link with Islamic Art history, museums and collections, and regional artistic themes. A new book is selected for each meeting, inspiring readers to exchange ideas and thoughts within the creative group and explore the world of Islamic art from a new perspective. During 2021, the Book Club will be focusing on books related to the diverse subjects in our Sheikh Saoud Exhibition, whilst also revisiting old favourites. •Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Art Lessons at Mathaf with Ismael Azzam (every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4pm-7pm). Adults are invited to join artist Ismael Azzam for a new season of Art Lessons at Mathaf and learn techniques in portraiture drawing using pencil, charcoal and paint. Colour Your World is a series of educational colouring pages depicting the many wonderful buildings in Qatar. Each illustration is accompanied by questions, with the answers hidden in the drawing itself.
