Amusement cities and parks across the country can resume recreational activities and operations from Sunday (January 3) with no more than 50% capacity, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced on Thursday.

A circular in this regard, tweeted by the MoCI on Thursday, is in line with the previous decisions adopted to protect the health and safety of Qatari citizens and residents, and limit the spread of Covid-19.

Entertainment activities will resume in three stages: first (from January 3), opening of outdoor playgrounds, children’s outdoor games, and billiards and bowling; second (from January 11), electronic games and trampolines; and third (from January 24), bouncers, inflatable games, and ball pits.

The MoCI instructed that managers of recreational activities “shall adhere to the precautionary and preventive measures outlined by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), and comply with the following guidelines”:

• Visitors are allowed entry only after checking their health status code in the Ehteraz app, and only those with a green code are allowed entry, with the exception of children.

• Individuals who do not wear medical masks are denied entry, and visitors are required to keep their masks on while they are inside the entertainment site, except for children aged under 10.

• Visitors’ temperatures must be measured, and individuals whose temperature is over 38C are denied entry to the recreational activity site.

• Visitors must be made aware of the need to maintain a safe distance of at least two metres.

MoCI noted that company owners who provide entertainment services should comply with epidemic prevention circulars, decisions and directives, including:

•    Instructions for the gradual reopening plan, and the timeline announced by the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management.

•    Circulars and decisions issued by the MoCI.

•    Instructions related to the responsibilities of employers to limit the spread of Covid-19, and directives for health and safety regulations issued by the MoPH.

•    The policies set by MADLSA on the precautionary measures to prevent and reduce the spread of the epidemic.

“The decision goes into effect as of Sunday, January 3, 2021 and maybe subject to amendments and updates according to the latest developments in this regard. Any violation of this decision exposes perpetrators to legal accountability and procedures,” MoCI said.

“The Ministry stresses that the success of each stage of the comprehensive plan of gradually lifting restrictions depends on the compliance of all individuals with the required preventive and precautionary measures,” the circular added.
