Ooredoo, in partnership with Qatar Museums, has launched ‘The Art and the Mobile’, a unique challenge that will see Qatar’s most talented and coolest young artists compete to turn new smartphone devices into masterpieces.
The partnership was signed at the Fire Station, in the presence of Mustafa al-Qatami, senior director marketing communication at Ooredoo; Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, Ooredoo's director of PR; and Khalifa al-Obaidli, director, Artists in Residence at Qatar Museums, as well as the participating artists. The launch event was also attended by a number of Ooredoo and Qatar Museums employees.
This unique project aims to further enrich Qatar's cultural and artistic scene, and shine a light on its young and upcoming artists, highlighting their skills and achievements.
Al-Kuwari said, “We're very excited and proud to be part of this unique initiative with Qatar Museums, which aims to support Qatari talents and showcase their artistic skills. Our thanks go to Qatar Museums for choosing us as a trusted partner for this project. We have provided the devices for the artists and we will be posting regular updates on their work progress via our social media pages, so stay tuned.”
Al-Obaidly said, “It’s a great opportunity to work on this project with Ooredoo and engage our artists to express their thoughts and messages through their art practices on an unusual canvas like a smartphone.
“The artists enjoy a challenge and I believe these challenges ignite creativity. The outcome of this project will enrich and add great value to the art scene in Qatar, and will support programmes for young artists in Qatar within our strategy to develop the art scene in Qatar.”
The artists selected to take part in the challenge will have a number of the latest smartphone devices as their canvases, and will work to turn these devices into unique pieces of art by painting or decorating their back panels. Each artist will decorate two to three devices, depending on the technique used, and will get to keep an extra device as a gift.
The finished masterpieces will be exhibited for the public at the Fire Station and part of the collection will be donated or auctioned for a worthy cause in Qatar. The results are expected in January 2021.
