Having the opportunity to work for Microsoft is a dream for many but for the head girl of Durham School for Girls, this is a dream come true at the age of just 14. Shaikha al-Sulaiti is the youngest student in Qatar to be offered this prestigious opportunity and will be joining a select handful of college undergraduates in the internship programme.
Durham School had participated in the Microsoft global learning connect in November in which Lana Khalaf, MS Qatar country manager, was the host and recommended Shaikha for this opportunity having been inspired by the young talent.
As part of a programme designed to engage and empower more girls in the field of Artificial Intelligence, education, and information technology, Microsoft Qatar has selected the student to join the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors programme this year. The programme is intended to introduce students to experts and mentors at Microsoft and begin the journey of collaboration and learning.
During the collaboration with Microsoft the interns will have exclusive access to Microsoft resources, such as Microsoft Learn, Visual Studio Code, and Azure credits. Shaikha will train on the topics related to gamification, STEM lessons and Artificial Intelligence. The programme will run alongside her normal school studies and both Durham School and Microsoft will ensure that she is supported during this time.
“Shaikha is an amazing role model for the school and for all girls in Qatar. We are so proud of her and thank Microsoft for this collaboration. We are opening Year 12 next year and are excited about the future of our girls and the opportunities for them”, said the school principal.
