Msheireb Downtown Doha has launched the first edition of Al Sikka ‘Gourmet Street’ on Wednesday, featuring a unique ice cream concept presented for the first time in Qatar.
The event, which brought together some of the prestigious retail brands in the city, attracted a large number of residents and visitors who had the chance to try a variety of flavours.
“We are pleased to organise this community activation in an open-air space to enjoy a new concept of an ice cream presented by our brands at Msheireb Downtown Doha. It is part of our social responsibility to offer our local community a place to enjoy their time in a safe environment,” Msheireb Properties’ Communications and Public Relations manager Maryam al-Jassem said in a press statement.
Set to become an annual event, Al Sikka ‘Gourmet Street’ is especially appealing to families. While savouring their ice cream, visitors can also listen to the series of musical pieces played by the ‘Music Affairs Centre’ at the festivity between 4pm and 11pm.
Besides ice cream, stalls are also offering other snacks such as yogurt, popcorn, and a wide range of specialty drinks and coffee such as Spanish latte.
Msheireb Downtown Doha, in collaboration with Alhosh Gallery and with the support of Seashore Qatar, also launched the “In Downtown” exhibition on October 20.
The unique show, which is open to the public from 4pm to 9pm, gathered 17 Doha-based artists who are showcasing some of their works at Sikkat Wadi Msheireb.
“Our new ‘In Downtown’ exhibition will be a unique art exhibition by local artists showcasing their latest collections. We appreciate AlHosh Gallery and Seashore Qatar for their kind collaboration in making this event happen. Msheireb Properties encourages art and creativity and supports the creative community to widespread its creations to the broader audience,” al-Jassem said.
A number of visitors lauded the event saying that it is being held at the right time and at a suitable location, dubbed as the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project.
“Msheireb Downtown Doha offers a unique ambience compared to other venues for such kind of event, you can say that ‘this is Qatar’ as you roam around and see these stunning architecture,” said Filipino expatriate Rommel R.
About the concept of the event this year, he said it helps people to “relax, be calm, and see the bright side of life in the face of many challenges.”
