The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs public procurement division has adopted a number of cases, by supporting the Qatar Society for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, with an amount of QR125,658, to aid individuals with motor, auditory, visual and multiple disabilities in general, in addition to cases of autism and with limited income, under the auspices of the Health Endowment Fund (HEF).
Director of the General Directorate of Awqaf Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Thani said caring for people with disabilities and making a creative environment for them, is one of the most important things Islam has encouraged.
He pointed out that this approach provided care and treatment for patients, and the HEF is continuing on this path, while the Administration of Endowment of the General Directorate of Endowments was keen to support competent authorities for persons with disabilities, including the Qatar Foundation For Rehabilitation Of Special Needs (QSRN), which happens to be Awqaf's partner as well.
The director added that this support comes on the basis of shared competencies and due to the strengthening of co-operation between the General Directorate of Endowments and QSRN, noting that the association's support was approved after studying the projects and requirements for purchasing medical devices for the benefit of persons listed as beneficiaries of the association's services.
It is worth mentioning that the HEF is one of the significant specialised banks at the local level, and was established based on the historical role of health endowments in Islamic history. It also provides care for patients with low-income, offering them appropriate health services, co-operating with competent authorities to conduct joint health programmes as well as educational training courses in health, and employing various media to raise health awareness in the society.
