United Development Company’s subsidiary Leisure and Resorts Company signed technical services and management and operation agreements with Corinthia Hotels, for ‘Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar’ hotel, and its connected golf course and beach club in Gewan Island, in addition to the new Yacht Club at The Pearl-Qatar.
United Development Company (UDC)’s subsidiary Leisure and Resorts Company signed technical services and management and operation agreements with Corinthia Hotels, for "Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar" hotel, and its connected golf course and beach club in Gewan Island, in addition to the new yacht club at The Pearl-Qatar.
UDC is the master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island.
The agreements were signed by UDC chairman Turki bin Mohamed al-Khater and Ibrahim Jassim Al-Othman, UDC president and CEO and member of the board of directors, in addition to Alfred Pisani, founder and chairman of Corinthia Hotels, and Simon Naudi, chief executive officer of Corinthia Hotels.
Al-Khater said, “This partnership fulfils a strategic objective in The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island’s development plans, one which will ensure UDC’s sustainable growth and support the national economy. Furthermore, the choice of the leading Corinthia Hotels group opens up wide horizons for co-operation and expansion in the promising hospitality sector.”

On the new yacht club at The Pearl-Qatar, al-Othman said, “The Yacht Club with its modern design and elegant settings, will offer a unique ambiance within charming backdrops of Porto Arabia marina. It will be therefore the ideal location for casual gatherings and enjoyment as well as a prized addition to the distinctive facilities of The Pearl-Qatar.
“It will equally reinforce the Island’s position as a remarkable destination that provides exceptional experiences and innovative concepts that serve tourism and hospitality."
The new yacht club will span an area of 1,450 sqm and will feature many facilities including fine dining restaurants, climatised outdoor seating, as well as a cigar lounge, several meeting rooms, and many more services that help create a leisurely feel.

The "Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar" Hotel will be established on an area of 13,000 sqm and will comprise 110 guestrooms including executive rooms, 30 suites and a presidential suite, a banquet hall and outdoor patio with a 1000 people capacity, an all-day dining and specialty restaurants in addition to a distinguished spa facility. The hotel will be an architectural jewel combining urban luxury and neo classical design and will feature many leisure activities and amenities.
Connected to the hotel will be a luxurious beach club facility which will provide the ultimate leisurely guest experience and offer several pools and chalets with stunning views in addition to exquisite restaurants and a cigar lounge.
The Gewan Golf Club is being set in six hectares of parkland and is designed to the highest standards, to offer a new-generation golfing experience.
Corinthia Hotels currently operates a group of luxury hotels in major cities including London, Lisbon, Prague, Budapest, Malta, Tripoli, St Petersburg, Rome, Brussels, Moscow and Bucharest among several others in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Gewan Island is situated next to The Pearl-Qatar, spanning 400,000 sqm. Once completed, the island will accommodate 3,500 residents and a similar number of daily visitors. Gewan Island will be home to 639 residential units, including 586 apartments, 21 beachfront villas with private beach, 26 waterfront villas that are equipped with private pontoons for private boats and six independent island mansions, 11,000 sqm of retail spaces and 15 multi-use buildings.
The Island will also feature – in addition to the "Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar" hotel, connected beach club and golf course – an air conditioned outdoor ‘Crystal Walkway’ and seaside ‘Promenade’, parks and green areas in addition to various entertainment facilities, a clubhouse and a mosque.
