The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has participated in the fourth Arab Digital Content Forum, which is being held until today via video-conferencing technology under the theme The Future of Arabic Content on the Internet.
The event has been organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications under the auspices of the League of Arab States and in collaboration with the CRA of Qatar, the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organisation (Aicto), the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (Alecso), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The CRA participated in the first session that was conducted on October 5 under the title The Reality of Digital Arabic Content, along with representatives from the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) and the Qatar Computing Research Institute.
The session discussed the reasons for the weak presence of Arabic digital content on the Internet and the importance of preserving the Arab digital identity from disappearing, in addition to discussing the challenges of digitisation from a technical perspective, and the impact of artificial intelligence in promoting Arabic content.
Participants also exchanged their views and experiences in this field.
“We are pleased with our participation in this session, where we discussed the current reality of digital Arabic content on the Internet and the challenges that face digitising the Arabic content, in addition to the importance of using the currently available technologies and solutions, like the usages of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the strengthen of digital Arabic content in various fields and sectors,” said Abdulla Jassmi, the technical affairs department manager at the CRA. 
“We also exchanged our views about the importance of supporting the innovations and breakthroughs in this field, which will contribute to the development of Arab digital content.”
The forum focuses on Arabic digital content, its advancement, and its challenges.
It also discusses the importance of Arabic digital content during crises and the role it has played in the current coronavirus pandemic, and lessons from this that may be applicable for other crises.
CRA president Mohamed Ali al-Mannai opened the forum on October 5 with the attendance of high-level officials from the League of Arab States, the Aicto, the ESCWA, the Alecso, and the ITU.
