Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has recognised the support provided by various public and private entities in the country to the national campaign to raise awareness on Alzheimer’s disease.
As part of World Alzheimer’s Day 2020 celebrations on Monday, and in support of dementia awareness, HMC partnered with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Qatar Museums (QM) and major Doha hotels to light up landmark buildings in Doha and along the Corniche in purple, the official colour for dementia awareness.
The event, which took place on Monday evening, was part of this year’s World Alzheimer’s Day celebrations being held under the theme ‘Let’s Talk About Dementia’.
In addition to Ashghal and QM, Qatar Rail, Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, The Torch Doha, Mandarin Oriental, Doha Municipality, Katara - the Cultural Village, Hamad International Airport, Al Bidda Park, City Center Doha and Elan Decaux were sponsors of the awareness event, HMC said in a tweet yesterday.
Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that causes deterioration in areas of the brain that control memory, thinking and behaviour. The condition can negatively affect the cognitive and behavioural abilities of people with the disease.
