HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie affirmed that social awareness and co-operation of all state agencies are the main support for achieving the ministry’s strategic goals and plans towards a clean and ideal life that contributes and supports sustainable development, and preserves future generations’ opportunities and related matters in Qatar National Vision 2030.
In statements on the occasion of the World Cleanup Day, HE al-Subaie said that all sectors of the ministry, especially the public services sector represented by the General Cleanliness Department, are working according to ambitious strategic plans that combine the acquisition of modern technologies and the efficiency of manpower with community awareness and support for positive values and co-operation in this regard.
He added that the ministry is also working to encourage individual and institutional initiatives, and to create a good atmosphere to develop the state’s capabilities in the fields of waste recycling and waste treatment, stressing the support of the wise leadership of this sector and the provision of all requirements according to a clear vision of sustainable development.
HE al-Subaie extended his thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the remarkable development of efforts to maintain public cleanliness, whether from workers in the ministry and the sanitation sector or society and its institutions and emphasised at the same time the important role of the media in raising social awareness, and the need for co-operation between media professionals and leaders and their adoption of the ministry’s awareness plans to achieve integration and spread it as a community culture.
The minister pointed to the importance of promoting public cleanliness programmes and plans, and their role in preventing damage caused by pollution and addressing any effects resulting from it, as well as improving the level and quality of services provided in accordance with best practices.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Eng Ahmed Mohamed al-Sada, affirmed that the World Cleanup Day is an important occasion to celebrate and honour ‘unknown soldiers’ in public services sector, represented by the General Cleanliness Department for their dedication in performing their duties to provide a more comfortable life for the people of Qatar.
Al-Sada pointed out that the ministry has 365 days of real cleaning throughout the year, starting at dawn every day with thousands of workers, engineers, technicians and administrators in the different departments of the ministry. 
He pointed out that the true concept of cleanliness is not limited to the common traditional concept of removing waste, but rather to a clean, healthy life with what it means in terms of waste recycling operations and comprehensive awareness and preservation of life quality, noting that the ministry spares no effort in order to achieve special Qatari standards for cleanliness as a fundamental pillar towards sustainable development.
He concluded his remarks by thanking all workers in the field of cleaning for their efforts and dedication during Qatar’s response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and the accompanying work to preserve the cleanliness of beaches and public places.
Al-Sada thanked all citizens and residents who assisted the ministry in performing its roles, appreciating their co-operation and calling them to contribute to awareness and education campaigns.
