Ooredoo, Qatar’s leading telecommunications operator, has completed the second Beach Clean-up event in its new campaign aimed at promoting protection of the environment in collaboration with Friends of The Environment Centre.

Dozens of Ooredoo volunteers attended Zekreet Beach on Tuesday to clean up rubbish and anything not part of the natural environment, for the benefit of the marine life to which the beach is home and for the many visitors who enjoy its natural beauty.

Ooredoo’s Beach Clean-up campaign, with the social media hashtag #LeaveOnlySandcastles, is intended to encourage beachgoers to take responsibility for cleaning up their own rubbish when they visit one of Qatar’s many beautiful beaches, and ensuring the sand is pristine when they leave.

Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, director PR at Ooredoo, said: “Once again, we were incredibly proud to see a large crowd of dedicated volunteers join us in our new sustainability initiative. Our corporate responsibility strategy includes a firm commitment to promoting protection of our environment for the benefit of future generations, and we’re delighted so many of our Ooredoo Family members share our commitment. Despite the heat, our teams worked solidly to clean up the beach and make sure only sandcastles were left behind. We thank them for their hard work and look forward to many more such events in the near future.”

Volunteers cleaning Zekreet Beach

Farhood Hadi al-Hajri, executive director of the Friends of the Environment Centre, said: “We are very pleased to see Ooredoo, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Al Sheehaniya Municipality and the Public Cleaning Department coming together to execute this campaign. This is not the first time that we have launched campaigns to clean beaches with partners, in the framework of social responsibility we apply at the Centre. We focus on protecting and rehabilitating beaches, and this campaign helps spread environmental awareness of the importance of volunteer work in serving the environment among members of society. We thank everyone who made this happen and promise you more campaigns to keep our beaches spotless.”
