HE the ambassador of Qatar to Japan, Hassan bin Mohamed Rafi al-Emadi, paid an inspection tour to three facilities that were completed as part of the projects of the Qatar Friendship Fund (QFF) to reconstruct the areas that witnessed widespread damage due to the earthquake and Tsunami disasters in March of 2011.
The ambassador, along with members of the embassy, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdullah bin Jassim al-Ziyara and Second Secretary at the embassy Rashid bin Mubarak al-Khater, visiting "Intilaq Centre" designated to entrepreneurship innovators in Sendai city of Miyagi prefecture.
This innovative centre, costing USD 16.5mn, is part of a globally connected network of start-up communities that foster entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship and seek to delve into new and innovative projects in addition to entrepreneurship.
The centre includes a room dedicated to Qatar, which showcases a variety of posters, brochures and promotional materials to promote Qatari culture and heritage.
The tour also included a visit to the "Elem Project" in Sendai city, where the ambassador and members of the embassy learned about the progress of this project, which costs is USD 6.9mn, and is based on an educational programme aimed at providing students with practical experience so that they can develop plans for their future lives.
The ambassador and members of the embassy concluded the inspection tour with a visit to the Qatar Science Campus at the Tohoku University, which includes a scientific facility aimed at graduating a new generation of engineers and researchers. The cost of this project, located in Sendai, is USD 2.8mn.
The Ambassador and the members of the embassy were welcomed by the officials of these three facilities, who explained the progress, work plans and expected accomplishments.
The officials expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the initiative of Qatar and its support for the Japanese people during the disaster, as well as its humanitarian gesture of contributing to the efforts to rebuild the areas affected by disasters.
They pointed out that life has returned to normal in the affected areas thanks to the contributions and achievements of QFF.
The officials also stressed that these projects will always be a symbol of the strong friendship and co-operation between Japan and Qatar.
It is worth mentioning that the QFF in Japan implemented 12 projects to meet the urgent and sustainable needs of the residents of the areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami in three prefectures: Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima. The projects focused on the fields of education, fisheries, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
