Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed, via video conferencing, the Institute’s host country agreement, on the occasion of the official opening of the Institute’s office in Doha.
The agreement was signed by HE the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed Hassan al-Hammadi and GGGI’s Director-General Frank Rijsberman, in presence of Qatar’s ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Haiki, and GGGI’s Deputy Director General Hyoeun Jenny Kim.
 Qatar was one of the 16 founding countries of the Global Green Growth Institute in 2012, an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
In 2019, the GGGI and the Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment launched a co-operation programme on activities that enhance the environmental balance in Qatar, in light of the unprecedented urban, economic and social progress that has been made.
Speaking on the occasion, HE al-Hammadi offered congratulations to GGGI for its expansion in the Qatar.
He affirmed that Qatar was among the first countries to join the treaty establishing the institute in 2012, when it contributed $10mn, pointing that Qatar represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is a member of the institute’s advisory board for the next two years.
