Riders training camp resumes at Losail Circuit Sports Club

Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC) has resumed some motorsport activities from last week after all the events were forced to be stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the first events to return was riders training camp at the go-karting track, organised by LCSC, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Qatar Motorsports Academy (QMA, will give an opportunity to the championship riders to train again and get back in shape after long period of inactivity.

The trainings are scheduled to take place each Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 8.30pm all of August. The opening of the activities has been done following all the healthy protocols and maintaining all government guidelines to avoid any health issue.

Khalid al-Remaihi, LCSC Vice-President and General Manager said he was glad to announce the reopening of track activities. “‘We are very happy to open gradually the LCSC facilities after a long period. The summer riders training camp is a chance for the championship riders to resume their trainings and be ready for the start of the championship. We have to be very cautious and we are maintaining all the government and federation requirements for everyone’s safety,” al-Remaihi said.

“After the training camp event, we are working on opening again the karting track and but it will be in further steps,” he added.

Reigning QSTK600 Champion Abdullah al-Qubaisi was excited to get back on the track. “You know we are involved with this summer camp in Qatar. We have the Covid-19 situation. We can't go out of Qatar for races but we are enjoying ourselves. The weather is hot but at least we are in training now. That's a nice feeling being on the bike,” he said.

The 22-year-old rider said he kept himself busy during the hiatus by following a fitness regime. “In the three months, I trained many hours to remain physically and mentally fit. And now after the long wait, we are starting here. Thanks to QMMF we are in this position where we can resume training,” al-Qubaisi said.

“We can't compete in Europe at this point in time. When we have our winter, we can't be competing there so my focus will be our competitions in Qatar,” he added.

Al-Qubaisi one of the most exciting riders in Qatar was aiming to compete in the world championships in future. “My long-term plan is to take part in World Championship. It could be any World Championship,” he said confidently.

Veteran rider and three-time QSTK600 Champion Saeed al-Sulaiti was lauded the efforts of QMMF and LCSC for organising the camp. “It is very nice to be back riding. The weather is very hot but we don’t mind, it’s almost five months without riding so it is a very good idea to participate here and have a great experience. Thanks for the organisers and looking forward to keep it the following months,” said al-Sulaiti.
