Qatar’s home-grown mobile payment startup SkipCash, which is domiciled in the Qatar Financial Center (QFC), is all set to diversify and foray overseas markets, joining Visa’s fintech fast track programme.
This allows SkipCash to more quickly integrate with Visa and easily leverage the reach, capabilities, and security of VisaNet, the company’s global payment network.
Through fast track, SkipCash is now able to provide mobile payment solutions (in-app, online, and POS), issuing physical and digital Visa cards, and card-to-card transfers.
“This will help us go beyond mobile payments, and even beyond the local market,” said Mohamed Abdulaziz al-Delaimi, co-founder and managing director of SkipCash.
SkipCash is a mobile payment app that offers a convenient experience throughout the payments journey for both consumers and merchants.
The app enables consumers to make digital payments using a proprietary QR code thereby reducing the need for cash, physical cards, and point-of-sale (POS) devices.
SkipCash also allows consumers to link their card securely to use it in all their transactions, monitor their spending via visual spending reports, organise their payments receipts, enable virtual account for kids and family members, and access to merchants’ vouchers and coupons.
“We are confident that this is a significant milestone for SkipCash, which will enable it to accelerate its promising development strategy and further expand its services. It also evidences the vast lucrative opportunities for start-ups in the fintech sector,” Yousuf Mohamed al-Jaida, QFC Authority chief executive said.
By joining Visa’s fintech fast track programme, SkipCash now has the ability to access Visa’s growing partner network, and experts who can provide guidance in helping them get up and running in the most efficient way possible.
“This opportunity came at a perfect time where people want to avoid using cash due to Covid-19 as well as while Qatar expedites its progress towards fintech and the digital economy to support Qatar Vision 2030,” al-Delaimi said.
He said it this is a very important milestone towards providing innovative payment solutions in the Mena region and for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Otto Williams, vice president (Strategic Partnerships, Fintech and Ventures), CEMEA (Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa) at Visa, said by joining Visa’s fintech fast track programme, startups like SkipCash gain unprecedented access to Visa experts, technology, and resources.
“Fast track lets us provide new resources that rapidly growing companies need to scale with efficiency…We’re delighted to welcome SkipCash into our programme and look forward to working with them on their payment solutions that will help promote financial inclusion in the Mena region,” he said.
