* Parks, beaches ready to receive visitors: Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality

Municipalities across the country are gearing up to offer the public the best services and ensure their health and safety during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holidays.

There is special focus on the inspection of food establishments and cleaning and sanitising public parks and gardens along with commercial streets, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has stressed. Slaughterhouses are also being duly prepared for the expected demand during the holidays.

Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality has announced that parks, beaches and open spaces within its jurisdiction are all set to receive visitors during the Eid holidays. These include Al Khor Park, Al Thakhira Park, Al Khor Corniche, Al Tawasul Traditional Park, the Al Thakhira walkway and Al Kabaan City Park.

The authorities have taken all precautionary measures in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Security personnel along with staff from the garden monitoring section will be available at the parks and beaches.

Other parks, gardens and beaches in the municipality will also receive visitors, including Ghuwairiyah Park, Al Qarma Beach Garden and Al Shu’aa Reserve. The necessary precautionary measures have been put in place.

Visitors have to maintain social distance and wear masks, and security personnel will be present monitor the situation.

The municipality is also carrying out pest control works and disinfection of public parks in various parts of Al Khor and Al Thakhira.

Further, it has intensified inspection campaigns at meat shops and slaughterhouses to ensure their compliance with Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control.

Veterinarians are ensuring the validity of meat products, while inspection campaigns are being carried out at all food outlets.

During the Eid holidays, veterinarians will supervise work at the slaughterhouses from 5am until 5pm daily. The same will be done at the fish market and Al Khor fishing harbour, which receives around 30 boats daily with more than 25 tonnes of fish a day.

There will be also a hotline to receive related complaints round the clock.

Other general public services and cleaning works will also continue across the municipality during the holidays.

Similarly, Al Wakra Municipality has chalked out a comprehensive plan of action in preparation for Eid al-Adha.

The municipality, represented by the health control section in the Municipal Control Department, has announced its readiness for the Eid holidays. The plan is aimed at preserving the health and safety of all and includes enhanced inspections at all food-handling stores and establishments to ensure their compliance with health requirements. The plan will also make sure that workers wear gloves and masks and have a valid health certificate.

The action plan includes surprise checks an all food establishments as well as greater monitoring of meat and fish markets. Under the plan, veterinarians will ensure that butchered animals and fish are fit for daily human consumption and any foodstuff showing signs of rotting will be destroyed.

There will be special focus on shops selling and preparing sweets, fruits, catering facilities and other any other stores that are likely to remain active during the Eid al-Adha holidays.

The automated slaughterhouse will be working throughout the holidays under the supervision of veterinarians who will ensure the safety of the sacrificed animals. The health control section will receive all kinds of complaints round the clock. These will be followed up immediately and the officials concerned will respond by taking appropriate action.

Similar efforts are also being made at Al Shamal Municipality, with special focus on raising public awareness on relevant issues and implementing continuous inspection campaigns.

The health control section will carry out its work at the abattoir from 5am until 5pm in order to receive sacrifices and run inspections by veterinarians throughout Eid al-Adha.

Inspections will also be intensified at shops selling meat, poultry and fish within the municipality, in the morning and evening, to ensure their safety as well as the stores' compliance with health requirements. Daily inspection campaigns will also cover outlets selling foodstuffs with a focus on sweets, nuts and vegetables.

Besides, inspectors are also doing the rounds of roads, squares, neighbourhoods, public parks, places in front of shops and restaurants to prevent public hygiene violations.

Al Daayen Municipality, represented by the health control section, has continued with its inspection drives at food establishments as part of the preparations for Eid al-Adha.

Accordingly, shops that sell fish were checked by veterinarians in order to make sure they are suitability for sale. The campaign also covered shops selling foodstuffs, vegetables and fruits, and safety measures at these outlets were also monitored.
