As India yesterday recorded 850,000 coronavirus cases, the testing per million crossed the 8,000 figure with 62.93% patients recovering from the disease, a positive sign amid the pandemic.
Focused and co-ordinated steps taken in tandem by the central and state government led to a consistent increase in the recovered cases, the Ministry of Health said.
In the last 24 hours, the ministry, said a total of 19,235 people were cured of Covid-19.
This has resulted in the cumulative total number of recovered cases rising to 534,620 yesterday.
“The recovery rate has presently improved to 62.93%,” the ministry said.
As more people are recovering due to all-round efforts, the recovered cases exceed active cases by 242,362, it said, adding medical attention is being provided to all the 292,258 active cases.
The present health infrastructure dedicated to providing medical attention to the Covid affected includes 1,370 Dedicated Covid Hospitals (DCH), 3,062 Dedicated Covid Health Centres (DCHC), and 10,334 Covid Care Centres (CCC).
For the successful operation of these facilities, the central government has so far provided over 122 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, 223.33 lakh N95 masks, and 21,685 ventilators to various states and central institutions.
Enabling factors like removing all impediments for Covid-19 testing and facilitation of widespread testing by states continues to result in a steady rise in the samples tested every day and during the last 24 hours 280,151 samples were tested, it said.
“The cumulative number of samples tested as of now is 1,15,87,153. As a result of these efforts, the testing per million for India is presently 8,396.4,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Delhi witnessed 1,573 new cases and 37 deaths, raising the coronavirus tally to 112,494 and toll to 3,371, according to the government’s daily bulletin.
On Saturday, Delhi saw 1,781 new cases.
To put things into perspective, just a week before, on July 5, the national capital reported 2,244 Covid-19 cases.
As many as 2,276 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases to 89,968.
The number of active cases is 19,155. Delhi has 652 containment zones. 
Gujarat meanwhile  once again recorded the highest spike of 879 coronavirus cases, taking the total count close to 42,000-mark, state health officials said.
The state’s total fatalities has now reached 2,047 with 13 more succumbing to the virus yesterday.
Tamil Nadu too reported 4,244 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the state’s Covid-19 tally to 138,470.
A total of 68 patients have died of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s death toll to 1,966.
The good news is that 3,617 Covid-19 patients have been cured and discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 89,532.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state after taking into account the cured and the dead stands at 49,969.
The number of infected children (0-12 years) in the state has gone up to 6,943.
Chennai continued to lead the state’s Covid-19 tally with 1,168 people testing positive in the past 24 hours, taking the capital’s total number of cases to 77,338.
