Qatar participated in the meeting, via video conference, for strengthening regional and international consensus on Afghan peace process, which was opened by the President of Afghanistan Dr Mohamed Ashraf Ghani with the participation of the President of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah Abdullah.
The meeting was chaired by Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mohamed Hanif Atmar. Some 20 countries and international organisations, including the UN, participated in the meeting.
Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of Qatar for Counterterrorism and Mediation of Conflict Resolution Dr Mutlaq bin Majed al-Qahtani represented Qatar in the meeting.
He reiterated the importance of strengthening regional and international consensus on Afghan peace process; starting Intra-Afghan talks; reducing violence, and releasing prisoners in preparation for the transition to the stage of negotiations, which is expected to start in Doha this month.
