The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has launched the second phase of inspection of workers’ accommodations at residential neighbourhoods in the Al Rayyan area.

The campaign will cover Farij Al Murra, Muaither, Old Al Rayyan, Umm Al Dum St, Al Shafi St and Muaither St. It is being conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.

The first phase of the campaign covered different parts of Doha, such as Najma, Mansoura, Bin Dirham, Old Salata, Al Riffa and Old Al Ghanim, in addition to market areas such as Al Asmakh Street, Abdullah Bin Thani Street, Msheireb, Doha, Freej Abdulaziz and Muntazah. Between April 22 and June 30, 430 housing units were inspected and 6,025 companies were issued related violation reports.

This inspection campaign is to implement HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs' Decision No. 18 of 2014 determining the conditions and specifications for appropriate housing for workers in coordination with MoI and MME , and the healthy standards of housing regarding the number of residents and the safety of the building. MADLSA also has urged employers to transfer their workers to the different workers’ townships designated for them.

Violating houses will display notices showing the date of inspection, inspector's number, and the details of the steps to be taken within two weeks of the inspection date, and shift the excess workers.

According to the decision, each bed should be allocated a minimum of 6sqm, while the capacity of shared rooms should be reduced and a healthy living environment should be provided. The house should be regularly supplied with sanitizers and cleaning materials and all rooms should be well-ventilated. In case of violation, the violating company shall be subject to all the related legal procedures .
