Maharashtra Mandal Qatar (MMQ), an Indian forum, has repatriated about 500 Indians to Mumbai and Nagpur in Maharashtra on three chartered flights.

"We arranged these chartered flights to help people from Maharashtra travel back to their hometowns. This was done in co-ordination with the Indian embassy and Indian Cultural Centre (ICC). People were chosen from the list registered with Indian embassy and preference was given to the neediest, especially those in critical medical emergencies, pregnant women and senior citizens, among others,” said Neelambari Sushant Savardekar, president, MMQ.

“We tried our best to keep the flight rates affordable for all and also helped a number of needy people with free tickets, while also arranging free transport for their trip to the airport and helping them financially so that they reach their hometowns safely. We are indebted to the Indian embassy and ICC for their wholehearted support in co-ordinating our efforts," Savardekar said.

MMQ office-bearers Santosh Salunkhe, vice-president; Sanjay Patil, general secretary; Parag Sonawane, joint secretary; Atul Deswandikar, treasurer; and managing committee members Shweta Koshti, Sujit Khanlosker, Nilesh Parsekar and Sagar Mangaonkar co-ordinated the efforts.
