Qatar Charity (QC), in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), has distributed 4,000 ready-to-eat meals — donated by Ikea Qatar — among those infected with the Covid-19 at quarantine centres in Umm Slal and Mekaynis.
Distribution of the meals comes as part of its continued efforts to provide food and preventive supplies, aiming to contribute to reducing the spread of the coronavirus, QC has said in a statement.
“As part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Al Daayen Municipality to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, the Awareness and Health Department has provided full support to, and supervision of, such initiatives that contribute to helping those affected by the virus,” said Ahmed Matar al-Shammari, public health inspector at Al Daayen Municipality.
Al-Shammari also praised the support of Ikea and Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts in extending support to those affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Alexey Sitkin, store manager of Ikea Qatar, said: “Caring for people is one of Ikea’s values. We strive to support the competent authorities and the local community during this hard time in whichever way possible. As part of its corporate social responsibility, Ikea Restaurant has played an essential role by offering over 4,000 healthy meal packages for the infected and needy ones.”
Abdulaziz Jassim, director of the Customer Service Department at QC, said: “Qatar Charity continues to distribute meals and food baskets to families with low income and those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”
He added that Qatar Charity, as a civil society organisation, and as part of its contribution to societal programmes, has distributed food baskets to needy families and workers in addition to ready-to-eat meals for workers in different quarantine centres.
He also noted that this initiative launched at the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak has had an overwhelming response from various institutions and companies in the country.
The director of the Customer Service Department appreciated the contribution of Ikea Qatar by providing the meals and sweets, calling on other companies to follow Ikea in helping affected families and providing them with food baskets.
