The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced on Wednesday 1,199 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) with 1,582 people having recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who recovered in Qatar to 73,083. Five deaths were also recorded.
The MoPH said that, in the last 24 hours, there were seven new cases admitted to intensive care due to health complications resulting from infection with the virus, bringing the total number of critical cases that are currently in critical care to 219 cases.
The ministry added that the new cases had the virus transmitted to them from people who had been previously infected. It continues to conduct investigative and proactive testing, which contributes to early detection of cases.
The new cases have been put in complete isolation in the various medical facilities in the country, where they receive the necessary healthcare.
The ministry said that patients who died on Wednesday were receiving the necessary medical care and were aged 57, 58, 77, 85, and 93. The ministry extended its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.
The health ministry confirmed that efforts to tackle the Covid-19 virus in Qatar have succeeded in flattening the curve and reduced the impact of the virus by a large percentage thanks to the preventive measures taken, and the awareness and co-operation of all members of society, and that there are relatively low average numbers in relation to the recorded cases of new hospital admissions.
The ministry pointed out that the number of daily Covid-19 infections among citizens and residents (not labourers) is increasing and has multiplied several times compared to what it was last month, despite the decline in the total daily infections in country.
It pointed out that most of the infections in these two categories belong to the members of the same family, and that the source of the infection is often due to social mixing with some friends or other relatives.
Therefore, attention must be paid to prevent infection of others, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
In this context, the ministry advised people to be more cautious than before, to continue to apply social distance, maintain sterilisation of hands, to wear a protective face mask, to observe caution when a person is near an elderly or a person with chronic diseases, and to reduce the number of necessary social visits and limit them to 15 minutes while maintaining a safe distance.
The ministry said that since June 15, Qatar has started gradually lifting restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic after the epidemic has receded in the country, but that does not mean that the application of precautionary measures and steps by community members shall be ignored because the virus is still in the community, indicating that if the degree of caution among the community members decreases, it is very likely that the pandemic will return in the form of a new wave.
It added that through people's commitment and limiting the spread of the virus, the transition from one stage to another in lifting restrictions can be made as the matter depends on the extent of applying precautionary measures while avoiding family visits as much as possible.
The ministry has developed indicators through which it assesses the current situation as a result of the gradual lifting of restrictions on a daily and weekly basis, and then it submits recommendations to the Cabinet regarding progress and transition from one stage to another of the plan to lift restrictions.
The health ministry urged anyone who has the symptoms of Covid-19 should either quickly contact the 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centres for testing. It said that this would be important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
The main screening centres include Muaither Health Centre, Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre, Umm Slal Health Centre and Al Gharafa Health Centre. The ministry recommended visiting its website regularly to view the latest information and instructions related to Covid-19.
