QatarDebate Center, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, will host the second online panel discussion in the 'Oasis of Dialogue' series on the topic of 'Qatar’s economy/strengths and weaknesses' on June 23.

'Oasis of Dialogue' aims to provide a constructive environment for dialogue and the exchange of ideas and theses and seeks to build a positive interactive system. It includes experts and specialists and authors of research and analytical writing, as well as young people with their views, perceptions and interests on contemporary issues.

Dr Hayat Maarafi, executive director of QatarDebate, said: “'Oasis of Dialogue' is a forum for expert minds and capable youth and is a platform that features discussion among emerging talent. The first discussion episode of 'Oasis of Dialogue' was successful and fruitful. It is a platform designed to educate young people on specialised topics in scientific fields and stimulate ideas, experiences and community development.”

Dr Khaled Rashid al-Khater, Dr al-Anoud al-Maadid and Nasser al-Emadi will be the panellists at the second discussion of 'Oasis of Dialogue'.

Dr al-Khater, a fellow researcher at the Center for Macroeconomics and the Institute for Emerging Markets at the University of Cambridge, UK, had previously worked as a resident researcher at Georgetown University in Qatar – 2011-2012, and director of the Research and Monetary Policy Department at the Central Bank of Qatar, and represented Qatar in the Technical Committee of the Monetary Union of the Gulf Co-operation Council.

Dr al-Maadid is an assistant professor of economics at Qatar University and holds a doctorate degree in economics and finance

besides receiving an Innovation and Influence award from Brunel University London in 2016, and had also worked as a fellow at Center for International and Regional Studies – Georgetown University, 2019.

Al-Emadi is a graduate of Business Administration - Finance major from Qatar University who is interested in the local and global economy and fluctuations in energy prices.

The episode will focus on three main points. The first point will evaluate the Qatari economy at present, while the second will discuss the weaknesses within the economy. The third point will highlight the role of the private sector in the diversification of sources of income and support for the local economy.
