The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced on Wednesday the registration of 643 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), and the recovery of 109 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 1,243, according to official Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Most of the new cases registered are among expatriate workers in different occupations who have been in contact with previously discovered cases. There are also new cases of Covid-19 among groups of workers from outside the Industrial Area who were identified through testing by the MoPH tracking teams, which has contributed to the early detection of new cases.

The remainder of new Covid-19 cases have come from citizens and residents who have contracted the virus from members of their families, who in turn had contracted the virus through their workplaces or other places where they had been exposed to infected people.

All the new infected cases have been quarantined where they are receiving the necessary medical care. The MoPH said most of the Covid-19 cases are experiencing only mild symptoms.

The ministry added that the chain of transmission of the virus has not changed in nature, as the majority of infections are confined to a specific category, and many of the newly discovered infections were for people subject to quarantine.

The MoPH also said that the noticeable increase in the number of confirmed new cases of coronavirus is due to several reasons, including that the spread of the virus has begun to enter the peak stage where numbers are expected to continue to increase before they begin to gradually decline.

This is in addition to the fact that the Ministry has doubled its efforts in tracking the Covid-19 transmission chains and expanded the search for infected people by conducting extensive and proactive tests of groups of contacts with people who have been confirmed with the disease previously. This early detection of many cases of infection helps reduce the spread of the virus further.

According to a tweet from the MoPH, with a total of 2,808 people tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, as many as 91,415 have been tested so far in Qatar.

There are 12,564 positive cases to date in Qatar and 11,311 currently undergoing treatment. The total number of Covid-19 deaths so far in Qatar is 10, according to the tweet.

The MoPH called on all members of society to stay at home and not go out except in cases of necessity and take care to implement preventive measures and maintain social distancing from others, including in the workplace and public places. The Ministry reminds people to use a face mask and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.

The MoPH also urged the public to visit its website regularly to view the latest information and instructions related to Covid-19.
