Qatar Foundation for Social Work and the centres affiliated with it yesterday organised a virtual press conference through the meeting application ‘Zoom’ and briefed local media about precautionary measures it has taken  to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus.
The virtual presser was attended by journalists, media and social media influencers in an effort to work together to ensure the highest levels of prevention and maintain the health and safety of all employees and beneficiaries of the services at the seven centres. The press conference also took into consideration all the professional obligations that guarantee the continuity of the workflow and the quality and speed of services provided to the public, according to the highest standards of excellence that the institution and the centres follow.
Amal bint Abdullatif al-Mannai, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, along with members of the committee, attended the press conference. They reviewed the latest developments and highlighted the importance of continuous development of the capabilities of electronic platforms in the foundation and its centres and working to develop alternative plans to tackle any urgent future events. The presser also stressed the importance of the development of the foundation’s internal institutional structure and that of its centres and working to prepare a distance working guide for the institution and centres.
The press conference further addressed several other issues related to the current crisis, especially the measures taken by the foundation and the centres to ensure continued provision of services to the targeted groups. They also discussed the internal and external awareness campaigns in each centre in addition to establishing a hotline and social media accounts for the central committee for crisis management in the foundation and its centres.
In response to a question on how successful the patron of working remotely has been, the CEO said: “We, in light of the current circumstances and their sensitivity, have had to succeed in work and not be satisfied except but with success, and this has been achieved, in large proportion, through the solidarity of everyone, from clients and employees affiliated with the centres.”
Highlighting the role of the Central Committee for Crisis Management, she said that the role of the committee is to follow closely all centres to ensure that they perform their role in the best way. Established since March 15, the committee continues to arrange regular meetings and has established a task force. The committee prepared a unified guide to remote work, which was applied by all the centres. The centres submit their weekly reports to the committee. The committee supervises, reviews and approves the work and activities of its working groups.
When asked how telecommunication and information technology sector in Qatar contributes to sustainability of the work during the exceptional times, the CEO said: “In Qatar, we have one of the best and the strongest IT and telecom infrastructure. It has already been a strong support to us in the digital transformation of the work, facilitating us in provision of many services.”
The foundation and its affiliated centres have been co-ordinating and communicating with many agencies in the country to reduce the spread of the virus in society. The centres continue to answer any inquiry from the target groups and in this regard a hotline 16030 has been allocated. It is worth mentioning that Qatar Foundation for Social Work was established in August 2013 as a non-profit institution aimed at developing the centres operating under its umbrella, enhancing their capabilities, developing and activating their role in society and setting strategies and policies that contribute to their advancement, enabling them to achieve their goals.
