Qatar University (QU) is collaborating with Sultan Qaboos University in Oman to organise the first international convention on scientific research management titled 'Research Management & Administration Conference', which will be held at the end of March in Oman.
QU aims to attract highly qualified research and innovation for the conference, it has said in a press statement.
Qatar University has participated in the formation and development of the conference topics, which will focus on the quality and efficiency of the methodologies used in the management of scientific research, the competitiveness of obtaining research funding, and building research capabilities. It also places importance on the impact and effectiveness of scientific research.  
The conference strives to benefit society by leading scientific research towards finding solutions to the community problems, expand scientific research funding programmes, spread the scientific research culture within industrial institutions and exchange the best methodologies in the management of scientific research locally and internationally, the statement notes.
Moreover, the conference will help identify the challenges and issues facing scientific research, find ways to address them and help identify international methodologies to measure and monitor the quality of scientific research and its impact on society.
The conference will address strategies of scientific research management, the management of research programmes and its challenges, in addition to addressing the ethical and legal aspects of research projects.
During the sessions, discussions will include the topic of competitiveness in obtaining research funding.
Moreover, to promote external research and motivate researchers to adopt it and collaborate in partnerships, the conference will clarify the topic of external research funding sources and the way to obtain it.
Participants will also be given the chance to discuss the strategies of building research capabilities, professional development in scientific research and specifying the research competencies required to carry out a successful research. The participants will also investigate the impact of scientific research and propose ways to improve its effectiveness through developing a research vision and strategy for institutions and linking research to the industrial sector.
The keynote speakers in the conference are Prof Mariam al-Maadeed, QU’s vice-president for Research and Graduate Studies; Dr Aisha al-Obaidly, Capacity Building director of Qatar National Research Fund, and a group of international experts hailing from various countries across the world.
QU has many local, regional and international activities in scientific fields related to developing and managing research and innovation strategies.
