The East Industrial Street Extension Project is bearing witness to the growing Qatari involvement in infrastructure development. The project, once completed, would have used 70% of Qatari products for the construction of roads, bridges, tunnels and pedestrian pathways.
This was revealed by Ashghal's Highway Project Department manager engineer Bader Darwish Saturday during the opening of the 2.5 km long carriageway, a part of the East Industrial Street Extension Project.

The Project features the implementation of infrastructure services with a length of 9,464m, 1,885m long rainwater drainage tunnels and installation of 567 street lighting poles and 270 directional signs. The works need the use of 87,854cu m concrete, 18,597.52 tonnes of rebar and 89,269 tonnes of asphalt.
Ashghal's Project Affairs director engineer Youssef al-Emadi said the opening of the carriageway is the last of Ashghal’s highway openings in 2019. He said the year witnessed the opening of several vital projects including Al Majd Road and Al Khor Road and several other roads.
As part of the East Industrial Street Extension Project, three signalised intersections, service roads, pedestrian tunnels, pedestrian and cycle paths will be set up. It is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2020.
