A diverse range of cultural and entertainment shows marked the 2019 Qatar National Day (QND) Associated Activities at Lusail Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday, bringing together thousands of students, teachers and officials from 18 Asian schools in the country under one roof.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) as part of the QND annual celebration for schools and expatriate communities, featured students’ parade, thematic songs and shows, and traditional dances, among others.

Dressed in colourful and uniquely designed costumes, groups of students enthralled a large number of spectators with their exceptional performances on stage.

Part of the programme also included a series of cultural shows by members of the Indonesian community, featuring Kipas and Plate dances, as well as an Angklung musical.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the celebration, Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah, director of MoI’s Public Relations Department, said the QND Associated Activities for schools has become one of the major events in Doha on this annual occasion.

“We can see the joy and happiness of students who are taking part here today in this huge celebration,” he said, noting that the number of participants continues to increase every year.

Brig. Al-Muftah cited the keenness of the schools across Qatar to participate in the programme and share their joy with their Qatari brothers in celebrating this momentous event.

Participating schools are: Pakistani International School, Bhavans School, Delhi Public School – MIS, Pak Shama School, MES Indian School, Shanti Niketan School, Ideal Indian School, Birla Public School, Noble International School, Sri Lankan School, Bangladesh School, Rajagiri Public School, Scholars International School, Philippine School Doha, Philippine International School Qatar, Olive International School, Doha Modern Indian School, and Qatar Institute for Speech and Hearing.

The programme also saw the honouring of schools, represented by their principals, for continuously participating and supporting this endeavour.

The QND Associated Activities for schools in Lusail forms part of the 12 mega cultural, musical, and sports events in various locations by the Organising Committee of the Associated Activities of QND 2019.

Other QND venues, which also showcased cultural and musical performances, included Wakrah Sports Club, Barwa Al Baraha and Asian Accommodation City in Industrial Area, Asian Town, Doha Stadium, Sri Lankan School in Doha, Barwa Village – Mukainis, Sheehaniya Industrial Area, Lusail Sports Complex and Al Khor Barwa Workers Recreation Complex.

“The National Day Associated Activities for schools provides an opportunity for students not only to showcase their talents but also the culture and heritage of the country they represent in this special occasion,” said Rajesh, an Indian parent who was accompanying his daughter at the celebration.
